DESCRIPTION:
The building of the Cultural Center "Lou Pourtoun", symbol of the rebirth of the Occitan village, is located at 1,400 meters above sea level in the hamlet Sant'Antonio - Miribrart and hosts the cultural and social activities of the renewed local community. The construction reinterprets the local type of the “pourtoun” that existed on the site: a covered road that fits the contour line, a void space that gives access to the building's cells located upstream and downstream. The space of the pourtoun, together with the articulation of the section, represent the key theme of the project, which has in the distribution its strength: all three levels are accessible from the slope, around the central void are organized the volumes of the rooms that host the various activities of the centre. The recycling of the stone, the clearity of construction, the high-performance building casing, the high wooden windows, the corten steel details, the energy production from renewable sources, make the building an example of adaptive reuse and of dialectical reinterpretation between history and contemporary.
