DESCRIPTION:
The project began with the need to plan a building able to host a Central Service Center for the University, but soon became a joint operation of public space, urban layout, integration with the nearby neighborhood “La Candelaria” and three different programmatic buildings (the Center for Integrated Care - CAI, the entrance gate to the eastern sector and a cafe), where the main objective was to integrate the public space with the buildings, weaving a new ensemble. The CAI building prismatic volume (almost cubic), has a pierced façade which creates a rhythmic relation by alternating colored architectural concrete walls and floor to ceiling windows. In terms of materiality, the project aims to create a dominant monochromatic project, that allows for the diverse parts to be seen as a whole; brick pavers for the floor, architectural concrete for the administrative building and weathering steel for the entrance and the café.
